ACHYUT SAROJ, PHD, BCMAS

I am an accomplished NCI-trained Cancer Scientist, Board Certified-Medical Affairs Specialist, Certified Oncology Patient Navigator, and Aspiring Spiritual Care Provider/Chaplain

The scientific evidence underscores the critical impact of spirituality on individual wellness and the ability to cope with illnesses such as cancer. With over two decades of dedication to the oncology field and spiritual exploration, I am committed to providing transformative, integrative spiritual support to care seekers, working alongside my team to empower individuals to navigate the complexities of disease with confidence and clarity.

Spiritual Competencies: With six years of dedicated volunteer experience at Chinmaya Niketan in Atlanta, GA, I have immersed myself in various spiritual and educational events. Over the past two years, I have taught Hindi to Bal Vihar students, fostering a deeper appreciation for Sanatan Dharma and Indian cultural heritage.

I have actively engaged in seva (selfless service) at Chinmaya Niketan, where I have successfully led seasonal gardening projects that nurture both the environment and the community. I routinely participate in Sunday Satsangs, which enrich my spiritual journey, guided by the profound wisdom of Acharya Sri Raghu Ji, Gita Ji, and Brni Jyoti Chaitanya Ji.

I consistently reflect on Vedantic teachings and the concept of Purushartha (the four aims of human life), integrating these invaluable lessons into my daily life. Daily meditation and spiritual walks in local parks rejuvenate my spirit and enhance my connection to nature.

As the leader of the Stallions cricket team, I strive to uplift my fellow players by providing spiritual support through yoga and being a compassionate listener during life’s challenges. I am committed to growing as a “Karma Yogi,” harmonizing Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Ashtanga Yoga in everyday practices.

I regularly participate in the weekly chanting of the “Hanuman Chalisa” at the Shiva temple in Buford (Gwinnett County), which enhances my spiritual connection and devotion.

I am pursuing the “Hindu Spiritual Care” course at the Chinmaya International Foundation to deepen my competencies and understanding of spiritual care. I have taken the initiative to lead a “Spiritual Toolkit Project,” collaborating with other dedicated volunteers to create valuable resources for spiritual support.

Future Goals: I am passionate about growing as a spiritual care provider or chaplain, dedicated to supporting individuals navigating spiritual distress stemming from cancer diagnoses and unhealthy lifestyles.

Career Path: As I pursue the Hindu Spiritual Care Certification (Chinmaya International Foundation), this has tremendously guided me with support from mentors (Madhu Ji, Ramesh Ji, Hema Ji, Hari Ji, and other teachers/speakers).

I have actively reached out to cancer organizations, especially the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia), and have been successfully accepted for the CPE internship program this fall that will qualify me for the residency program next year. Dr. Caroline Peacock directs the spiritual care group at the Winship Cancer Center and is excited to guide me during the CPE intership, which begins on September 3, 2025.

For my advocacy work, I have started networking on LinkedIn with key leaders in the field of spiritual care for cancer patients. I recently established an LLC (AwareOnc) to raise awareness about spiritual care in cancer treatment and have begun developing essential resources around this theme, such as a new publication regarding the spiritual assessment of cancer patients.

My goal is to create courses and webinars for healthcare providers and patients to enhance the value of spiritual care in wellness and oncology settings. Additionally, I plan to seek help from my peers.

Moving forward, implementing this integrative spiritual cancer care model requires strategic collaboration with stakeholders who possess influence, resources, and alignment with the mission.
